History

sydney1INGLIS Engineering was founded on a proud history of more than 75 years family experience in the engineering industry.  Our business ethos and values are inspired by the memory of Sydney David Inglis (Syd).

Syd obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Sydney Technical College in the early 1930’s and he went on to work as a radio engineer at AWA Ltd. (Amalgamated Wireless Australasia) from 1934-1945.  With the post-war boom in the manufacture of consumer goods, Syd joined James N. Kirby Holdings Pty Ltd.  During his engagement at Kirby, refrigerators, washing machines, transistor radios and other household goods rolled off the factory production lines.

Syd was a master of innovation and one of his many inventions was a patented apparatus for inserting pre-wound coils into the slots of a stator or of a field carrying member of a dynamoelectric device.  http://patents.justia.com/patent/4024632

His published resources include: “A portable wireless set for the flying-doctor services.” A.W.A. Technical Review, 5 (1941), 193-198.

Syd retired a respected engineer in the Australian manufacturing industry on the back of a career that had delivered an incredible range of consumer products to the domestic market.
